Caravan Palace here we come…

Thursday, July 8th, 2010

Psssttt….don’t tell anyone but we’ll be at the Secret Garden Party this year.  Yes, rehearsals have been underway and planning is a go-go for an exciting array of classes and performances at one of the UK’s best small festivals. Among the acts performing are Caravan Palace and we’ve been getting very exciting about the prospect of swinging out to them in a field in Cambridge shire. Swinging out to electro-swing?! I hear you cry. Yes! That’s right. And just in case you thought it couldn’t be done, take a look at this amazing performance form the Ninjammerz at  with the very same Caravan Palace at Festival de Jazz de Montréal.

Next challenge…swinging out in wellies. Oh dear…

Ever seen underwater lindy? Thought not.

Wednesday, April 28th, 2010

If you thought the Shim Sham was hard…try it underwater.  OK, dont, but witness the mildly eccentric London Swing Festival instructor Dax Hock and Doug Silton doing it in Thailand. This is exactly 2 minutes and 36 seconds of madness but it’s really quite funny. Doug, we are just loving your underwater swivels, no really we are.

Inspiration for your variations…

Tuesday, March 23rd, 2010

At Newington Green last week Scott and Ash were talking about some cool varitations for triple steps, something to just make it a bit more expressive and fun.  As a beginner dancer, still in my triple-step robot phase,  I have often watched the professionals and been amazed at how they managed to insert such personality into their dancing. It’s a massively inspiring thing to watch and it’s always those dancers that leave me thinking ‘I want to do that.”

This clip of  Mikey Pedroza & Frida Segerdahl at 2009 ILHC  is one of those clips. Frida especially just has some AMAZING variations. She has some seriously happy feet! This is one of those dances that just keeps on moving, even when it appears to be standing still. The personality and style it make the whole two minutes a joy to watch! Now if only I knew how to slow the damn thing down …:) Enjoy!
